Amy Louise Jackson is an English film actress and model who rose to fame after winning the beauty pageant, Miss Teen World 2008.

Jackson is from the Isle of Man and is the daughter of BBC Radio Merseyside presenter, Alan Jackson. MY NAME IS KHAN mirrors the era we live in. Not a day goes by when you haven't heard/read/watched news of terror attacks and innocents being killed. We live in turbulent times. Also, the movie states - and states very strongly, without mincing words - Not all Muslims are terrorists.

Karan Johar's cinema got more real from KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA onwards. In MY NAME IS KHAN, the storyteller attempts to make a social statement and succeeds completely. At the same time, it takes no sides. If the protagonist says 'My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist', it also exposes those who misadvise the youth with inflammatory and rabble-rousing speeches.

Karan's take on the issue deserves the highest praise, since a subject like this is difficult to attempt. Final word? MY NAME IS KHAN is Karan, SRK and Kajol's best outing to date. Do I need to add anything more?

Rizvan Khan [Shah Rukh Khan moves to San Francisco and lives with his brother [Jimmy Shergill] and sister-in-law [Sonya Jehan]. Rizvan, who has Asperger's syndrome, falls in love with Mandira [Kajol]. Despite protests from his brother, they get married and start a small business together. They are happy until September 11, when attitudes towards Muslims undergo a sea-change.

When tragedy strikes, Mandira is devastated and they split. Rizvan is confused and upset that the love of his life has left him. To win her back, he embarks on a touching and inspiring journey across America.

Let me alert you. The story unfolds feverishly from the very start itself. So if you miss a scene or two, chances are you would've missed some vital links in the story. The fact is, there's too much happening in the first half. Although the narrative tends to get leisurely-paced at times, the wheels continue to move from one episode to another.

A number of sequences are endearing. For instance, the romance between SRK and Kajol is subtle, yet charming. But it's SRK's relationship with Kajol and their kid that's one of the best parts of the movie. Your heart bleeds when an accident occurs and their lives are torn apart. Kajol's outburst - first, when her son meets with a catastrophe and second, when she confronts SRK - are truly shattering.

MY NAME IS KHAN's strength lies in the fact that you root for Khan all through. At the same time, you are weighed down when he's in a vulnerable situation, especially when he's labelled a terrorist and thrown behind bars. You don't realize it, but the fact is that you, as a spectator, have already got entwined in Rizvan and Mandira's lives.

There's a slight hitch in the second hour, when SRK returns to Georgia to save a hurricane-ravaged hamlet. Also, the media exercise tends to add to the length of the film. Nonetheless, it's a minor hiccup that doesn't rob the film of its punch.

There's just one word to illustrate Karan's direction - exemplary. One of the finest storytellers of our generation, he deserves brownie points for deviating from 'Karan Johar brand of cinema' and attempting a film that knocks on your heart and stimulates your mind. With MY NAME IS KHAN, Karan takes rapid strides as a storyteller.

Shibani Bathija's screenplay is truly arresting. Shibani and Niranjan Iyengar's dialogues are noteworthy and many a times, applaud-worthy. Ravi K. Chandran's cinematography is awe-inspiring. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music gels well with the nature of the film.

When a film stars two of the finest talents of the country, you expect nothing but the best. SRK, well, how does one describe his performance? To state that this is his best work so far would be cutting short the praise he truly deserves. In fact, no amount of praise can do sufficient justice to his portrayal of Rizvan Khan, who has Asperger's syndrome. His latest work is several notches above anything he has done before. The only compliment that I can think of is, SRK has a new screen-name now. Raj is passe, Rizvan it is.

Kajol is pure dynamite and casting her for this character was the most appropriate decision. No other actress could've matched SRK in histrionics the way Kajol has. In fact, SRK and Kajol compliment each other wonderfully well and this film only proves it yet again. It's a powerhouse performance from this supremely talented actress.

The film boasts of a number of capable actors, but the ones who leave a rock-solid impact are - in this order - Zarina Wahab, Sonya Jehan, Jimmy Shergill, Arjun Mathur, Parvin Dabas and Arif Zakaria. Sugandha Garg is confident. Navneet Nishan supports well. Vinay Pathak leaves a mark in a brief role. Tanay Chheda [young SRK] and Yuvaan Makaar [SRK and Kajol's son Sameer] are excellent. The American actors, especially the kid who plays Sameer's friend, deserves mention.

On the whole, MY NAME IS KHAN is a fascinating love story, has an angle of religion and a world-shaking incident as a backdrop. It not only entertains, but also mesmerises, enthrals and captivates the viewer in those 2.40 hours. At the same time, a film like MY NAME IS KHAN is sure to have a far-reaching influence due to its noble theme. I strongly advocate, don't miss this one!

Asal The Power of Silence - Movie Review

Ajith who went off the radar in his last 'Aegan', is back fit and fine in 'Asal'. And perhaps to compensate the 'Aegan' disappointment, he hogs all the limelight giving audience a double delight in the movie.

Though the story is not new, it is all about style and substance and the film is loaded with rich visuals and breathtaking sequences, making it a quality outing.

When a hit pair comes together, the expectations always bound to be high. So when Ajith and director Saran, who have back to back successes under their belt ('Kadhal Mannan', 'Amarkkalam' and 'Attagasam') joined hands for 'Asal', there was an air of expectancy.

'Asal' not just rises up to that level, but also good in its own way especially because Ajith is energetic and Saran efficient. Their good vibes are evident on screen.

Sivaji Productions deserves all credit, for at a time when the film industry is facing some troubled times, a production house going all guns without anything in mind but to come out with a quality product, deserves applause.

Unlike their earlier outings, Saran and Ajith have consciously chosen not to load the movie with mass hero matters and commercial elements alone. The intelligence in 'Asal' lies in giving them in the under current as the story flows. At the same time, the film has not disappointed 'Thala' fans too as they have moments to rejoice in cinema halls.

Yuhi Sethu, who is known as a taut screenplay writer, has ensured that the script has no loose ends and there is no logical lapse. Of course, with Ajith's name as co-director, it makes one sit up and watch. The actor seems to have involved himself in the filmmaking department knowing his strength and the taste of his ardent-fans.

Jeevanathan (Ajith) is an arms dealer in France who supplies artillery only to the government. His sons are Sam (Sampath Raj), Prasad (Rajeev Krishna) and Shiva (Ajith). Sam and Prasad sideline Shiva all the time.

When the elder sons decide to strike a deal to sell weapons to a terror group, trouble breaks out. In spite of their father's resistance, they go ahead with their plans with the help of their uncle (Milind). Crossing swords with them is a Mumbai-based group led by Shetty (Kelly Dorji).

What starts from here is a battle between brothers, besides their war with the competitors. The swiftness in the screenplay begins here. It is from here the movie takes a roller-coaster ride.

There is Sara (Sameera Reddy), who works in Franch Embassy and falls for Ajith. The scene-stealer here is Sulabha (Bhavana). Her scenes especially on Valentine's Day is rip-roaring fun. Meanwhile there is Daniel Dharmaraj (Suresh) a French cop who adds twits to the tale.

Though influence of Hollywood movies like 'Payback' could not be avoided especially in the second half, one can forget the fact since 'Asal' is a rich attempt that is bright and beautiful. The conviction in narration and character establishment (except that of villains) is praiseworthy. Yuhi Sethu as Don Samosa provides lighter moment in the movie.

It's Ajith's aura all through. He brings all the necessary tricks involved to make the double role look different and also appeal to the masses. As father, he is stylish and elegant. As the son, he is committed. Though the former comes for just 15 minutes on screen, he walks away with all applause. Ajith is willing and efficient. He has a raw passion and comes out shining in the double role. He has the right nuances to differentiate the two characters. After a brief gap, one could see the actor fresh and fine in dance sequences too. He carries the story on his broad shoulders. The film’s success is mainly due to him. If 'Billa' showed him oozing all stylish, 'Asal' showcases him on roles with style and substance.

Sameera Reddy is chirpy and vivacious. Happy that Kollywood has an actress who combines glamour with performance. It's a welcome break for Bhavana. The actress understanding the responsibility on her seems to have taken the role in her stride and renders enough justice to it.

As usual, Prabhu (who is the producer too) has been breezy and impressive on his part, while the rest of the cast do have a part to play in the script.

Prashanth D Mishalae, a former associate of Nirav Shah, is simply the man of the moment. His lens has given the whole movie a fresh coat. Stylish and suave all through, the cinematography sets up the momentum. Especially those sequences in France with different tone and colour, is a revelation to Tamil cinema.

Movies on underworld or those about a don do always have some breathtaking stunt sequences and so does ‘Asal’. The stunt choreographers including William Ong, Kanal Kannan, Thalapathi Dinesh, Patrick Bruneton have done justice to opportunities provided to them.

Bharadwaj seems to have repeated the magic (if you are ready to forget the background score). The songs are pleasant to listen to. Watch out for 'Em Thandhai...' and 'Tottadoing...', they rock in the theatres.

To sum it up, Ajith, Saran and Bharadwaj have the struck the right chord again- for 'Asal' in an unpretentious entertainer

If Rann proves anything, it's that Ram Gopal Varma is aching to tell this story. Film-goers may praise him for his effort or choose not to do so, but one has to give him his kudos for telling a story that goes against the grain.

This time around, the maverick filmmaker exposes the relationship between politicians, industrialists and the media.

Set against the backdrop of a popular TV news channel, he also expands on the sensationalising of stories to boost ratings.

Rann not only scratches the surface, it opens a can of worms as it uncovers how news is created by those with vested interest.

As is the case in every profession, there are people who are good and bad at what they do. Rann highlights the pitfalls of succumbing to corruption in ones quest to climb the ladder.

A serious film, Rann mirrors the grittiness and influence of RGV's Sarkar franchise. It is powerful and appeals to the intellectual who has cringingly sat through frivolous run-of-the-mill entertainers.

At the heart of the story is Vijay Harshvardhan Malik (Bachchan), the founder of the private news channel India 24/7.

A hard core upholder of journalistic ethics, his channel is struggling to survive. His son Jay (Sudeep), however, looks at the channel as nothing but a business enterprise. He hates that his competition, Amrish Kakkar (Behl), is doing better than him.

The twist arrives when corrupt politician Mohan Pandey (Rawal) uses the channel to fight his battles by manipulating Vijay's son-in-law, Navin (Kapoor).

Mohan aspires to be the country's new prime minister and initiates a vicious campaign against his rival.

An insecure Navin won't rest till he becomes the number one industrialist in the country and he, in turn, involves Jay in Mohan's game plan.

Rann would have bombed if the writing wasn't razor-sharp and the actors were incompetent. With that taken care of, RGV's simplistic approach to what is undoubtedly an intricate story, leaves one completely absorbed.

Bachchan is spectacular yet again, especially in the climax. His speech and delivery is remarkable. Sudeep is terrific. To stand up to veterans like Bachchan and Rawal is no mean achievement. Deshmukh keeps getting better with every film. In fact, he is becoming quite the surprise package.

Behl got the role of a lifetime and he sinks his teeth into it, while Panag is easy on the eye.

On the whole, Rann is a well-made film and is highly recommended for those with an appetite for poignant cinema.

The story of the film 'Veer' is based on a love story between Pindari soldier and Rajasthani Princess in the backdrop of war of independence.

Salman plays a character of brave Pindari soldier named Veer. The Pindari community prefers death over dishonour and fights till last breath.

The movie starts with the colonial India of British rule. The Kings of India fall prey to Britishers' divide and rule policy. But there is a community, who proffered death to save the independence.

The stakes are high as he has to avenge his father's dishonour as well as get over the hurdles in love as he romances princess Yashodhara, the daughter of his sworn enemy.

Also shot in Britain, it is also the first Bollywood film to be shot in the premises of Buckingham Palace.

The film, is a remake of the 2008 Bollywood film, A Wednesday!, directed by Neeraj Pandey, began its filming in March 2009 and released on 18 September 2009 to positive reviews.

7. Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu - வெண்ணிலா கபடி குழு

Tamil drama film written and directed by newcomer Susindran, starring debutant Vishnu Vishal, Kishore and Saranya Mohan along with numerous other newcomers in the lead roles.

8. Eeram - ஈரம்

Tamil supernatural thriller film written and directed by newcomer Arivazhagan Venkatachalam. Starring Aadhi of Mirugam fame, Nandha and Sindhu Menon in the lead roles, the film, produced by director Shankar's S Pictures, was released on 11 September 2009.

9. Siva Manasula Sakthi - சிவா மனசுல சக்தி

Directed by Rajesh and starring Jeeva and newcomer Anuya Bhagvath, a student of Pune Film Institute, in the lead roles. Actor Arya appears in a special appearance in the movie. It began its first schedule on 10 March 2008. The film, which is said to be loosely based on the 2001 South Korean film My Sassy Girl, released on 14 February 2009, became successful and is declared a hit at the box office.

There is a staple story line that has been tried and tested in movies many times before -- a poor boy meets rich girl, they have their differences, eventually the boy destroys the rich girl's ego, her family's pride and whatever left of her self-esteem and makes her his docile, submissive, traditional wife. You saw it in Arivali, Periya Idathu Pen, Sagalakala Vallavan, and many other movies.

Now, Tamil film Siva Manasula Sakthi relives the story once again. It is a toned version of Dhanush's Padikkathavan by Vikatan Talkies.

10. Yavarum Nalam - யாவரும் நலம்

Very rarely do you get to see a movie that's not just logical and has good performances, but comes with a deliciously intriguing thriller whodunit tag as well. Story
Arjun (Debutant Sameer Dattani) is a rich and spoilt brat who has the power and proud ness of money in his back ground. He is a loving son of politician Devanayagam (Radha Ravi). He attended a college in which he falls for beautiful Geetha (Shriya). He proposes to her initially, but she refuses him. Then he blackmails her by all means and so Shriya forcibly fall sin love with him in a fear that he jump from the top of the college building and dies. So, Geetha and Arjun Star dating like usual lovers and the story goes on.

Kutty (Dhanush) who is a go luck guy with no big aims and ambitions in his life enters the college as a student. He falls in love with Geetha and proposes to her. He learns from her that she is a lover to Arjun and asks him to back off. But he makes a funny twist to the proposal and says to her that he is in love with her which may be a one side love. He also backs her love and says that she need not love him, but at the same time need not hate him too.

Then the rest of the movie is how Kutty wins the heart of Geetha and how he succeeds in his love. In the climax scenes Geetha realizes that she is in love with Kutty and not Arjun and so the movies ends on a happy ending a after a reel flow of goon bashing of course!

The movie is a time pass movie and will be liked by Dhanush fans as his boy next door looks impress them

Aayirathil Oruvan - Movie Review

Aayirathil Oruvan is a Fantasy filled thriller subject filmed by the director Selvaraghavan and is made on a budget of Rs 32 crores. The movies which took two years in making is well worth to be watched. The first half of the movie is filled with comedy, action, enthralling locations and is excellently captured on frame. The second half carries the first half and gives a message about the difference between the past & present generation living and cultures and most importantly the basic human compassion.

Aayirathil Oruvan begins with the story which is interesting. The government of India wants to known the details about a previous mission which was unaccomplished by an archeologist, whose existence has vanished after taking up the mission. So, the government of Indian directs the archeological department to appoint another team of archeologists who can find the traces of the previous archeologist and his findings. Archeologist Anitha Pandian (Reemma) is given the duty to trace out the details about the mission which was unaccomplished and also the duty to track down the were about of scientist and archeologist who vanished while in duty. A military officer Ravi (Azhaga perumal) is also given the duty to take part in the mission as a security officer.

The missing archeologist was given the duty to discover the last chola civilization and now, Anitha has to find him and also accomplish his unfinished mission. The team is provided with the assistance of Lavanya (Andréa), who is the daughter of the missing archeologist. She has the talent to take the team to the lost city and has potential to help the team accomplish the mission.

In order to help the team of archeologists get to the spot along with their belongings, a group of collie gang is entrusted with the job to carry the belongings, Muthu(Karthi) is the leader of the coolies and is a bad mouthed, uncouth guy with a bit of golden heart.

The team goes through the jungle terrain and sea route to reach the expedition and stumble of the civilization of the chola king (Parthiban). Then the twists and turns of the story are inexpressible and are better to be watched on the biog silver screen.

Paruthee Veeran Karthi plays his role perfectly and his dialogue and body language match his film character in Aayirathil Oruvan.

Reema Sen adds glamour and also substance to the movie and the flow is kept on her by her with her superb acting. Her acting talents are well exposed in the film by director Selva.

Andrea’s acting is good and she also adds glamour to the movies thrill and plays her role perfectly.

The other characters like Prathap Pothan, Azhagan, and Parthiban and so on play their characters well.

Music by GV Prakash is apt to the storyline. The background score matches the movies mood and specially the song which is a remixed version of old MGR song filmed of Karthi is perfect to entertain the mass crowds.

Selvaraghavan did a good job as well as Ramji the cameraman.Performance wise Karthy as well reema sen delivered a good performance.All in all Aayirathil oruvan is a good movie, But not for Entertainment.

Goa Tamil Movie - Audio Release Function

Superstar Rajini has launched his daughter Soundarya's maiden production venture Goa at his residence at Poes Garden on Monday (January 4). The audio launch took place in the evening, but the press was not invited nor informed about the same.

Earlier it was reported that Goa would have a big launch with a lot of fanfare at Chennai Trade Center on December 23, like the earlier audio launch of the director Venkat Prabhu’s Saroja but at the last minute it was postponed.

Rajinikanth released the audio officially and made it a point to talk to unit members of the film who were present on the occasion. He also praised Yuvan Shankar Raja who was there along with the director Venkat Prabhu and Sony Music team. The unit also shown some portion of the film to Rajini. After watching the scenes Rajini praised Venkat Prabhu with excitement and asked him to show the full movie!

Director Venkat Prabhu says that the storyline was inspired from a real incident which happens in March at Goa in which a man charged for a case against raping a British teenager. The storyline revolves around this rape case of a girl and the story is going too made with humour and thrill. Hope Goa will be Director Venkat Prabhu’s Hat Trick success.

Aasal: The Power of Silence - Audio Release Function

The audio release of the tamil movie ASAL happened on month of January 4, 2010. The soundtrack for Asal has music by Bharathwaj & Y-Kinz with lyrics from Kaviyarasu Vairamuthu. Bharathwaj Has started the composition of 'Asal' in this brand new studio named as JJ studio.

The audio distribution rights are given to ANAK Audio. Think Music, an association of Sathyam Cinemas and Hungama Technology. The soundtrack has seven songs.

Asal’s audio was launched in a very simple function at Sivaji Ganesan’s house in T Nagar, Chennai. Those present at the launch were the film’s lead star Ajith, his wife Shalini, director Saran and music director Bharadwaj. Also present were Sivaji’s sons Ram Kumar and Prabhu along with their family. The press was also invited to this event.

The audio was launched with hardly any fanfare at ‘Anna Illam’, house of the legendary Sivaji Ganesan. The audio was launched by one of the producers Prabhu and was received by Ajith.

The Ajith-Bhardwaj- Saran trio has produced super hit music Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam, Attagasam in the past. Finally, ‘ASAL’ turns to be a grand affair for all the ardent followers of ‘Thala’ who have been eagerly expecting his music for past one year. The trios Bharadwaj-Ajith Kumar-Saran have added one more film to their success.

The music of the film has been well received, as there is something different in Bhardwaj’s tunes. Now the trade is looking forward to the first visual look of the film.

Since his death, Michael Jackson's music sales have skyrocketed, and then a documentary, 'This is it', showcasing the pop star in his final months was released. However, moments before the release of the song 'This is it', came an unexpected allegation, with singer Paul Anka claiming that the song was a rip-off of one of his songs and threatened to sue the Jackson Estate. However, just hours before the release, an agreement was reached and Paul Anka was promised 50 percent of the song's royalties. It was later revealed that the song was co-written by both in 1983 for a duet, but the pair had a fall-out and hence couldn't perform together.

Manna Dey awarded Dadasaheb Phalke

This year saw legendary Hindi and Bengali playback singer, 90-year-old Manna Dey being awarded the prestigious 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award'- the highest honour in Indian cinema. He was conferred the honour by the President of India, Prathiba Patil. Manna Dey has been earlier bestowed with the titles of 'Padma Shri' and 'Padma Bhushan'. The distinguished playback singer has sung over 3500 songs in the course of his career and dominated the music scene from the 1950s through the 1970s, along with Mukesh, Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar. A documentary on Manna Dey's life and times has also been released this year.

Kylie Minogue makes her Bollywood debut

Bollywood's most expensive production so far, it didn't do too well at the box office. Kylie played a cameo with a song 'Chiggy Wiggy', produced in collaboration with A R Rahman, where she danced with Bollywood actors Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta, Akshay Kumar and Zayed Khan. The 41-year-old starlet was the centre of all media attention and made an impact with tabloids during her short stay in India for the shoot. She's supposed to have been mesmerised by Bollywood and plans to come back soon.

3 Idiots - Movie Review

Pants down and palms up! Give a high five to Rajkumar Hirani, whose formula of cocktailing entertainment with social messages has given us jaadu ki japphi and Gandhigiri in the past. His latest baby 3 Idiots isn’t exactly the cinematic ‘chamatkar’ it’s cracked up to be. It’s a frothy, feelgood, fun-filled, one-time-watch film that leaves you smiling but doubtful whether you wanna walk back in for another viewing.

Borrowing only scraps from Chetan Bhagat’s ‘Five Point Someone’, Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi churn out some delectable idiotgiri, laced with juvenile humour and tear-shedding moments. The only trouble is that the film’s core message is hammered out so many times that by the end it begins to lose its punch.

Salt water is a good conductor of electricity. Everyone’s read it, but Rancho (Aamir Khan) applied it on his ‘pissed-off’ senior to escape getting ragged on his very first day of the Imperial Engineering College. An Edison-in-the-making, he believes in striving for excellence rather than success, which, in fact, is the core message of the film.

But excellence can’t be had if you strive half-heartedly or fearfully or, worst, mechanically. Thereby come in three more characters - Farhan (Madhavan) who wants to be a wild life photographer but is doing engineering to fullfil his dad’s dream; Raju (Sharman Joshi), a poor lad who’s so afraid of failure that his fear has become a self-fulfilling prophecy; and Chatur (Omi) who’s a learning machine adept at mugging up books.

On top of them is the ever grimacing professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani), fondly called Virus, telling them that the world’s a rat race in which one has to step on another to get to the top. No wonder the ingenious Rancho is an oddball out in the herd. His questions perplex his professors. And his disdain for the education system that professes learning by rote makes him the arch foe of Virus. Sandwiched between the two foes is Virus’s doctor daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor) who falls for Rancho but has to face up to her eccentric pa at home.

Hirani and Joshi take this basic story, spin it on its head, and make it a tale of a quest of Farhan and Raju for their lost friend Rancho, who disappeared after topping the college. The writer duo packs in some fine humour and drama but overshoot the mark at some places. For instance, Chatur’s convocation speech in which the word ‘Chamatkar’ is replaced by ‘Balatkar’ is a gag stretched too long. And there’s too much butt baring and dropping of pants. And the screenplay too takes a circuitous route through a funeral and a wedding, both not essential to the plot.

Despite these foibles, ‘3 Idiots’ makes for an enjoyable watch, thanks to the bonhomie cracked up on screen by Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman. Aamir’s Rancho is a bouncy, fidgety genius with a golden heart. The 44-year-old actor almost passes off as a 22-year-old collegian, bringing out in his character the juvenile buoyancy and vivacity few actors of his age can. Madhavan and Sharman give ample support from the flanks, but a word of praise needs to be reserved for Sharman who shines equally in dramatic as well as funny scenes. Kareena, sadly, has been relegated to a corner but makes her presence felt in a few well-enacted sequences, but it’s Boman Irani who comes up with the best performance in the ensemble with his brilliant portrayal of an eccentric professor. His jawline protruded, his brows pursed, his gait ungainly, his speech lisped, Irani is every bit the vile and virulent Virus he’s supposed to be.

Shantanu Moitra’s music and Muralidharan’s cinematography complement the flick well. Rajkumar Hirani spins a yarn that despite a few botches has its heart in the right place. For this alone, ‘3 Idiots’ definitely ought to be seen and enjoyed.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaarya audio launch function

In the Tamil movie history, for the first time, Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya audio release function held in a foreign country. On 19th December, the audio launch function of the above film held at London.

The entire team of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ has gone to London on Thursday night for the audio launch. Touted as the “dream audio launch” by the film’s team, the event will be first-of-its-kind for a Tamil film; a music launch outside the country.

Besides the cast and crew, the launch is even said to be graced by music maestro A R Rahman, the music director of this musical entertainer. Among the team are the film’s singers including Karthik, Chinmayi, Srinivasan and others who will also board the flight tonight.

Trisha will be accompanied by her mum dearest and the actress who is an ardent fan of Rahman, is really looking forward to meet him for the first time.

Avatar - Movie Review

James Cameron may have placed this story on a moon called Pandora with alien characters (known as Na’vi) that could have belonged to human race if not being double the size, a longer face, sharper features, blue body, white fluorescent marks on the face and tail at the back.

Still, emotions felt are just the same where Na’vis fight for their land, people, pride and right to live.
In a way, the story is no different from what locals may feel in any part of the world when outsiders make an attempt to make inroads into their land to gain hold of their resources. This is what happens to Na’vis as well when their peaceful existence is challenged with American troops entering their world to gain hold of precious minerals worth billions.

While they send one of their men (Sam Worthington) to Pandora by turning him into a Na’vi avatar so that he can understand the way of the natives and talk them into handing over their land, they also nurture a plan of their own.

With round of talks merely being a cover to understand how Na’vis feel and react, there is a deadly operation brewing in the background that would has a single point agenda of destroying and winning.

“Avatar” is an admirable effort because not even once viewers feel that it’s an ‘alien story’ (pun intended) being told. There is a love story brewing between Sam’s Na’vi avatar with the Pandora princess (Zo Saldana) and soon he discovers an altogether new world. Literally. He wages a battle of his own with support from a handful of friends from ’sky people’ along with tribe members and animals belonging to all shapes and sizes.
The story conveys that Cameron is a big fan of Bollywood films from the 60s and the 70s. Just like his last effort “Titanic” which was as Bollywood as it gets, even “Avatar” has quite a few Hindi film references if one starts plotting them on paper.

After watching “Avatar”, the question of paramount importance is - what does one pick and what is it that should be left behind the experience that goes by the name of “Avatar”?

Does one admire Cameron for the sheer vision that he has put to tremendous use in the making of “Avatar”? Does one pick up each and every frame in the film and start bisecting it for every pixel which has been designed to perfection? Here is another B grade flick from Vijay's factory of Mass Masala! There is nothing new in this action-revenge-average comedy flick and most of the scenes also dragged from his old movies like Pokkiri, Bhagavathy, Thiruppachi etc... Also Vijay is completely surrendered in front of the demigod of Kollywood, Rajinikanth. He almost copied the superstar's style and mannerisms even in dialogue delivery. So once again the actor proves that there is no place for originality in his films or his acting.

The story is as old as rock...

Ravi Alias Police Ravi (Vijay), a Tuticorin based happy go lucky guy is attempting continuously to get promotion from his plus two exam. Ravi adores Devraj IPS, a dutiful police officer, as his guru and wishes to become a cop like him in his future.
'Unexpectedly' he passed his plus two exam and starts his trip to Chennai to get admission in a College! He meets a lovely girl Suseela (Anushka) during his journey in the train and immediately falls in love with her and completing his quota of duet in dreams. But in real, Ravi earns his livelihood by driving an auto after his college hours and continuous his studies and love.

One bad day, he meets Chella, a womanizer and the son of local don Vedanayagam (Salim Ghosh), who has control over entire Chennai. Chella once raped Uma, classmate of Ravi which caused for a fierce fight between the heroes and baddies and finally Chella killed. Vedhanayagan makes hard efforts to become a minister in the state cabinet and aims to kill Ravi through his power.

Meanwhile, Vijay comes to know about a shocking fact that Devraj IPS, his guru, has lost his career, eyesight and his family because of Vedhanayagam. Now, Ravi join hands with Devaraj and vows take a revenge of baddies and starts striking with his fists of actions that move in a much cliched way. It is none other than a Perarasu type mass masala which mostly failed to grab the attention of the viewers in most of the scenes. Vijay does his role as usually with lot of aimless punches, stunts and dry comedy. Srinath, appearing as Vijay's associate is irritating the viewers like an empty vessels noise.

The post interval part is so overdosed with gory elements. Anushka reveals her glamour portions well. There is no scope to her to show her acting performance. Though the narration of police officer Devraj role is remembering Nasser of Dhill, Sri Hari done it with his maximum input.

Gopinath's cameras work is good. But it is Vijay Antony who failed to attract with good numbers in tunes as well as BGM. There is nothing new in the film, including the promotional techniques of Sun Pictures.. So the hopes to make this film as a minimum hit is also very difficult to Vijay.
Hard times continues for Vijay.. better luck in Sura!

Renigunta Tamil Movie Review

The young criminals involving in murder and heist sends chill in one's spine. The director's apt characterisation and strong team of technician gives sheen to it.

Johnny (son of producer NIC Arts Chakravarthy) makes his debut playing the lead role while a group of freshers including Sanusha, Nishanth, Theepetti Ganeshan, Thamizh, Sandeep among others make up the rest of the cast.

The movie begins in Madurai where a young boy Sakthi (Johnny) leads a happy life with his parents. A shocking incident changes his life. His parents are murdered by an anti-social and Johnny is forced to go to prison, where he is tortured. He comes across four criminals in the prison - Pandu aka Pandurangan (Nishanth), Dabba aka Prem Kumar (Theepetti Ganeshan), Mari (Thamizh) and Michael (Sandeep). They sympathise with Sakthi, who seeks solace in their company. These hardcore criminals break loose from the prison and help Johnny take revenge on his parent's killers. They decide to go to Mumbai where they plan to become big gangsters. But fate has other plans. They land at Renigunta where they come across Bunker (Bunker), who acts as mediator between contract killers and clients.

At Renigunta, these boys get the acquaintance of Sardar (an influential don) through Bunker. After a successful murder in the town, Sardar takes these boys seriously. Meanwhile, Sakthi comes across a dumb girl (Sanusha) in the neighbourhood. After a few encounters, romance blossoms between them. But the girl's brother plans to push her to flesh trade. Taking pity on Sakthi, his friends decide to help him elope with the girl, but only after completing a murder for Sardar.

But all plans go haywire when they execute their murder plans. Sakthi loses a couple of friends in front of his eyes. An angry Sakthi turns to Sardar for help. But Sardar flees from the place. Sakthi eventually teaches him a lesson by bumping him off. But did he join hands with his lover girl or not forms the climax.

Johnny as Sakthi has been impressive. His body language and dialogue delivery besides emotions sit apt for the character. Sanusha is not just cool and cute on screen, but has also performed with grace. Among the boys Nishanth and Theppati Ganeshan has been outstanding. He not just evokes terror while committing murders but successfully manages to evoke laughter in few scenes.

Due credit should be given to young cinematographer Sakthi, a former associate of Jeeva. His capturing of the action sequences looks fresh in Tamil cinema. Ganesh Raghavendra's background score sets up the momentum.

Produced by Mahendrakumar, 'Renigunta' is a raw action film. However too much blood and wielding of knives creates a fear in the audience. Had the director cut down on such scenes, 'Renigunta' could have been a destination one would love to travel.

Ameer was looked up on as a director who creates heroes in Tamil film industry. But in the company of filmmaker Subramaniam Siva he has brought out the actor in him. The man who made movies like ‘Ram’ and ‘Paruthiveeran’, has taken to a different canvas this time. He has painted a 'red' Chennai this time around.

The movie which seems to be inspired heavily by Oscar winning Tsotsi, has undergone enough changes in the script to suit Tamil audience. It has action, raw action and free for all in Chennai. Gurudev's lens has captured Chennai in a different way.

The dim lighting gives right pep. Subramaniam Siva's script is rightly complimented by Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score. The violent first half has racy score while the second half is soft dominated by good use of violin as it deals a lot about the love shared between Yogi and a baby.

Ameer as actor passes out in flying colours. He is at his ease right from the first frame till the last. The director in Ameer has given way for the actor, who shakes his legs, emotes and flexes his muscles all through. Equally appealing ids Madhumitha. The actress plays Sulochana who comes across Yogi and slowly develops a soft-corner for him. She plays a woman who has lost all joy in life. Her eyes filled with sorrow and spontaneous body reactions evokes special mention.

Subramaniam Siva has chosen his star cast well. Be it lyricist Snehan who plays Yogi's friend, Vinecent Ashokan as rich entrepreneur of journalist Devaraj as menacing father of Yogi, all have done their part well.

Yogi (Ameer) is a man who keeps to himself. Born and brought up in Chennai slum, he along with his friends thrives of theft, robbery and occasional murders. Yogi is a youth nut to crack. He had a bad past and keeps it to himself. Yogi and his friends decide to rob a restaurant one night. When they finish their job, they are chased buy cop. Yogi manages to flee in a car. After giving a slip to cops, he gets shock of his life. He spots a baby in the back seat of the car. The human being in Yogi wakes up. He leaves the car and takes the baby with him to his house. He is slowly transformed.

Yogi comes across Raja Sulochana (Madhumita), a young mother who is deserted by her lover after giving her a baby. Yogi convinces her to breast feed the baby.

Sequence of events reveals that the baby's mother real mother Caroline (Swathi) is desperate to get her child back while her husband Linden (Vincent Asokan), who married her knowing well that the baby is not his, decides to fins the baby and kill it.

            Meanwhile a flashback reveals Yogi's past. Thanks to his father (Devaraj) a beggar, he has had a terrible childhood. His mother ending her life and sister beaten to death by his father on front of his eyes. Though Yogi develops a bond with the child, he decides to leave it to its original parents. But fate has other plans. Yogi eventually loses his life only after reuniting the baby with her mother. The cops close in on Yogi as he decides to give the child back to its parents, leading to a climax twist.

             Auro (Amitabh) is a 12 year progeria infected kid living with his gynecologist mother Vidya (Vidya Balan) and her mother (Arundhati Naag). Extremely witty Auro happens to win an award in his school from a young politician, Amol Arte (Abhishek). On the same night when Vidya watches its telecast, she realizes that Auro actually met his father for the first time. During her student days abroad, she was in a relationship with Amol but had broken off with him over their decision whether to keep the child or not. Amol wanted it aborted and not commit for marriage as he wanted to pursue his political ambitions. Progeria affected children don’t happen to live beyond 13-14 years so when Auro collapses and she fears he is nearing his final stages of his life, she reveals to him that Amol is his father. What follows next and how Auro is instrumental and getting his estranged parents back together forms the rest of the film.

            Paa is R. Balki’s next after the immensely lovable Cheeni Kum (2007). Balki had showcased glimpse of his brand of sarcastic humor in his debut film and with Paa he has completely established it. The film has been intelligently narrated cutting away from unnecessary melodrama. The pacing is just perfect. The selection of child actors (including Mr. Bachchan) deserves special mention. They act their natural self and are extremely hilarious. Paa has plenty of wonderfully written and enacted sequences like Auro’s conversations with his best buddy in school Vishnu, Auro’s sequences with his stuffed toy King Kong, Amol – Vidya’s argument over whether to keep their child or not, Amol exposing his detractors on live national television, Auro and Amol’s chilling out all day in Delhi, Amol realizing Auro is his own child and finally of course the climax.

           With his Auro act, Amitabh Bachchan yet again proves he is the Paa of all his contemporaries where acting is concerned. The effortless manner, in which he has carried out such a challenging act, deserves a long standing ovation. He is definitely bound to win all the acting awards for this one. Abhishek Bachchan has put up a very mature act. In fact you may want to hate his character in the film initially, but full credit to him for making it very likeable. Vidya with her body language succeeds in communicating her single mom turmoil. She is effortless natural as well and looks wow. Arundhati Naag is very good. Paresh Rawal in a short role as Abhishek’s father is well restrained.

            The film scores very high in the technical department. Music maestro Ilaiyaaraja’s music is melodious and perfectly interwoven with the film. His background scrore is super fresh. Anil Naidu’s editing and PC Sreeram’s cinematography are top notch.

Is Trisha retiring or is she thinking of getting married? Why on earth should she do that, she seems to be ruling the roost in Kollywood and Tollywood. Well, she might not exactly be the undisputed No.1, but at least she is in contention for the queen's throne. So, what gave the idea that Trisha might be planning to take VRS from Kollywood? The simple reason that she seems to be taking up a few performance oriented roles with substance in them rather than just the song and dance routine. That is certainly a good thing and must be appreciated and encouraged. But looking at the career graphs of all the former queens of Kollywood, a common pattern can be noticed. They start looking for and taking up strong and substantial characters when they are no longer in the race to be the top heroes eye candy in commercial movies. Look at the graphs, it is all the same. They begin slowly, take off in style, hit the crescendo with glamour and then gracefully land with an award winning role or two in their kitty. By the time Khushboo did K.B's Jathimalli, she was no longer being considered for lead roles opposite Rajini or Kamal, it was going to the Rojas and the Meenas. When Roja took up Maayan, she had already passed on the mantle to Jyothika, Simran and the likes. When Meena took up Kalaignarin Kannamma, she was at best being paired with Sathyaraj or in a few Malayalam movies. So, as you can see the characters take precedence only

when the star value faces a decline. That is not a written rule but something that has been followed for quite some time now.

Remember Simran doing Kovilpatti Veeralakshmi somewhere in 2002, a year before she decided to call it quits. She also dubbed herself for the first time in her career believing that it was a potentially award winning performance. Then there was Jyothika who after all the years as lead heroine gave us a jolt when she signed off with Mozhi. We never even imagined that this lady had such a sensitive actress within her and that it took the sight of an impending retirement to bring it out. That has been the case, it has taken a glimpse of the sunset to make the latent actresses within Kollywood's heroines bloom. But that blossom is engulfed in the darkness that takes over after sunset, their true colors are never seen, maybe rarely in case of actresses who decide to come back and are fortunate enough to get some great roles, not the kind that Simran got in Seval. Actresses have made it a habit to reveal their full potential only months away from their retirement and this does not give directors enough time to tap them or fans enough time to appreciate them. As a result most Kollywood heroines are grossly underutilized and remain so forever.

Coming back to Trisha. We hope she is not into any VRS plans as yet. But the symptoms are there to be seen in the form of Abhiyum Naanum, Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam and a compelling eagerness to be part of Marmayogi (which unfortunately is not happening). The good thing here is that Trisha has not taken these quality conscious decisions in the face of a decline in her career. She is still very much hot property amongst fans and directors. The fact that a leading lady has made such decisions makes us reflect back to the days of Revathy, Nadiya and Suhasini who never gave preference to any one kind of role. They did all kinds of roles fearing neither image nor relegation and that is why we could see their acting skills and enjoy them for a lengthy period and still remember them as complete actresses. They gave themselves the room to experiment and pulled it off with ease. That is what Trisha may be attempting now and we sincerely hope that it comes off marvelously so that others of her generation, the likes of Nayanthara and Shriya, feel secure to leave behind glamour and go for something special. It's time for change.

Who is the most popular actor in Kollywood? There is no obvious answer to this question. Fans of a star will vouch for their idol. But look quite closely and you will see that the answer is something different. It depends on how you define popularity. Popularity is not something that can be measured in absolute terms. It is not defined by the number of life size cut-outs that are seen in front of theaters, nor by the amount of money that is made at the box office, nor by how many days a film runs house full in theaters. These are facts and figures which are influenced greatly by many other factors than just a star’s popularity. That is why, Rajini’s proof of popularity is not the figures Sivaji generated at the box office, but the sheer impact that a ‘singam singla thaan varum’ punch dialogue generated in theaters and in the ears of millions of fans. Kamal Haasan’s popularity is not gauged by Dasavatharam’s over 60 billion gross, but the sheer mirth induced by Balram Naidu. Popularity is the longevity of an artiste’s work in the minds of people and the way it is embraced by the audience. If that is the real barometer for popularity then it can be quite emphatically said that the most popular actor in Kollywood these days is none other than Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu. If you think this is a joke, then think again. Vadivelu might be all about jokes, antics, pranks and laughter, but his position as the most popular actor in Kollywood is pretty serious.

There are around 10 prominent Tamil channels on air round the clock. It is undeniable that one can’t surf through all these channels at any time of the day or night without seeing Vadivelu’s face and listening to one funny dialogue of his. You can try it if you want and you will find that at least 9 out of 10 times, this is true. Vadivelu is omnipresent on TV. It is also true that he is one of the busiest actors in Kollywood, doing a huge number of films; the one whose call sheets are most sought-after. If you don’t watch TV, you still can’t escape the Vadivelu frenzy that has gripped Tamil Nadu at the moment. Each one of his punch lines is a huge craze amongst the people. People are finding new ways and occasions to opportunely use one of his dialogues for a funny moment. The ‘Varoom aana Varaadhu’ line from Thottal Poo Malarum might count as one of the most popular. Though not mouthed by Vadivelu in the movie, it is his presence that got the scene noticed. The word ‘risk’ whenever mentioned nowadays is always accompanied by ‘risk edukkarathellam engalukku rusk sappudurathu mathiri’ quip. Of course, there are the all time favorites from Winner like ‘Adhu pona masam, naan solrathu indha maasam’. College students seem to have a special liking to the ‘naan appadiye shooock aayitten’ line which they use every time they narrate an out-of-the-ordinary incident. There cannot be anyone who has not yet heard the ‘Kelambittanyaa, Kelambittanyaa’ or the Vandhuttanyaa, Vandhuttanyaa’ catchphrase from someone. The list of liners by Vadivelu that have found their way into the everyday lives of the common man are huge, like the ‘usuppethi usuppethiye, odamba ranakalam aakinttanga’. You may not speak them, you may not even like them, but there cannot be anyone who can honestly say that they can’t identify these lines as typical Vadivelu products.

The impact of the Vaigai Puyal lies in the fact that he has got not fans associations or clubs, everyone is his fan, and everyone loves to watch his scenes. That is why all major Tamil channels have resorted to telecasting comedy scenes for almost 2.5 hours every night. A rough estimate is that around 50% percent of the screen time is hogged by Vadivelu scenes, the rest being shared by Vivek, Karunas, Goundamani-Senthil and other comedians. After 9:30 pm, there is not a moment when Vadivelu is not on any one of the major channels. One might attribute it to the fact that a couple of fully dedicated comedy channels have opened over the past six months. But it is also undeniable that no one ever has monopolized the attention of an audience and small screen space to this extent.

Vadivelu also has no class barriers. He is not an A class performer at times and a front bench specialist at other times.
